Gironde Estuary and Pertuis Sea Marine Natural Park

Gironde estuary and Pertuis sea Marine Natural Park (PNMEGMP) is a 6.500 km2 marine protected area.

The Park borders more than 1.000km of coastline and 113 communes in Vendée, Charente-Maritime et Gironde. It extends into some thirty kilometers out to sea, with depths of up to around fifty meters.

Almost the whole Park is designated under the “Birds Directive” or “Habitats Directive”, also known as Natura 2000 Directives (99.47 %). These designations form a very dense network with 25 sites. The Park also integrates other marine protected areas with complementary objectives. Four of them are national nature reserves.

As regards coastal and marine seabirds and shoreline litter issues, the Park has been carrying out many actions with local partners to improve the knowledge (monitoring actions) and implement conservation actions.
