Since its creation in 1992, the LIFE Programme (L’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement, Funding Instrument for the Environment) is the European Union’s financial instrument supporting environmental, nature conservation, and climate action projects throughout the EU. These projects are known as LIFE projects.
LIFE funds can benefit private individuals and public organizations. The Programme is intended to promote and fund innovative projects about conservation of species and habitats, soil protection, air, and water quality improvement, waste management, and reduction or adaptation to climate change.
Since its creation, the LIFE Programme has co-financed more than 5.500 projects across the EU and in third countries.
