SEO launching the test tidal bins in Spain

SEO launching the test tidal bins in Spain

At the “Playa de Trengandin” in Noja, a curious assembly of pallets takes pride of place. It bears an informative sign reading ” Tidal bin, only for marine litter found on the beach “.

Installed by SEO, this tidal bin is designed to encourage users to collect and store marine litter they find on the shore, and SEO Cantabria has challenged the local population to take photos of themselves collecting litter and depositing it in the bin.

SEO set up 2 bins at the Urdaibaï site, and 2 at the Santoña marshes (Cantabria). Their aim, as part of the LIFE SeaBiL project, is to raise awareness among the local population of the problem of plastic pollution at the project’s pilot sites, and to characterize the waste found there.

The bins are not intended to be used as beach litter garbage cans, and will be removed during the summer tourist season to prevent beach-goers’ picnic leftovers from being thrown into them.

During the course of the project, the UCA will also install 2 other tidal bins on the Cabo de Gata site.
